Our History
House of Prayer Ministries was birth in September of 1973, by Elder Walter Bell Sr. and Evangelist Deborah Bell. Under the leadership of Elder Bell the Church was named Apostolic House of Prayer Church- All Nations, and services were held in the couples living room. In 1974 the church purchased a storefront building located on 63rd street in Chicago, Illinois. At this location many souls were saved and delivered. Pastor Bell was known as a man of fervent prayer and would often spend hours on his knees praying for Gods people. Through many hardships and trials, Pastor Bell held on to Gods word and believed that God was going to do an awesome work in Chicago on the corner of 63rd street. Pastor Bell would often tell people, There shall be a church on this corner and 26 years later there is still a church on that corner

Our Pastor
God has given to this ministry an awesome pastor, teacher, shepherd and visionary leader in the person of Elder Michael T. Horbrook Sr. Pastor Horbrook was born on October 25, 1956 to John and Essie Horbrook in Chicago, IL. Growing up in the inner city as a young man was not easy. Pastor Horbrook often remembers having to fight his way to and from school. As if that wasn’t enough he also had to deal with a father who was an alcoholic and would gamble away the families money and then come home and verbally & physically abuse them.
At the age of 20, he started dating a young woman by the name of Tanya Daniels. Pastor Horbrook grew very close to Tanya’s family and as result was often called son by her parents. In the spring of 1976, Tanya Horbrook lost her oldest sister in a violent car accident. It was from this tragedy that God’s perfect plan was revealed. In search of some type of closure and inner peace, Pastor Horbrook was led to the Apostolic House of Prayer Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Bell. It was there where he realized how much he was in need of a savior.
On October 12, 1976, Pastor Horbrook gave his heart to the Lord and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Later on that year he brought his high school sweet heart, Tanya Daniels to the church and she also accepted Jesus Christ as her savior. After Tanya was filled with the Holy Spirit, she brought her remaining two sisters to the church and they also were filled with the Holy Spirit. Pastor in turned brought his brother and two sisters to the church and they also were filled with the Holy Spirit. At the end a total of 13 siblings including 1 parent were filled with the Holy Spirit because of one mans search.

The Lord honored his request and also placed in him the spirit of humility. Pastor Horbrook is known as a man of faith with a passion for worship and God’s people. Pastor Horbrook and Evangelist Tanya Horbrook have 4 children 6 grandchildren and countless spiritual sons and daughters around the country.
Our Vision
The writer of Proverbs wrote, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint” (29:18). Because of a lack of a clear vision and God-given calling for their lives, many in our generation are lost and perishing. It is this reality and the burden to see it change that has given birth to the vision of a multiethnic church plant that will reach the Chicago-land area.
* We envision a church where worship is Christ-focused, passionate, alive, and relevant. We recognize that we have been created for the very purpose of worshipping Him. We envision worship inspiring our people to desire the very heart of God, seek to glorify His name, and make Him known.
* We envision a church that will be committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to thousands of unchurched people from all different ethnic backgrounds in the greater Chicago-land area, many of whom will accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
* We envision a church that will be committed to developing new believers as well as growing believers into becoming functioning followers of Jesus Christ, living out the Great Commission daily in their homes, schools, workplaces, and abroad.
* We envision a church that will be used by God to minister to the homeless, the poor, the fatherless, and widowed. Because God´s heart breaks for them, we want our hearts to be broken for them. We want to be His hands and His feet.
This is our VISION — this is our goal! When we live out our vision, we will see our church…BUILDING FAMILIES relationships and restoring the family structure with Godly principles, CHANGING LIVES of people hurting and addicted to various substances. Whether it be drugs, unhealthy relationships, or sexual strongholds, and MAKING DISCIPLES out of people least likely considered followers of Christ. Equipping them to carry the gospel all around our city, nation, and country.

What We Believe
* The Bible to be inspired and infallible in its entirety (Psalms 19:7), inerrant in its parts (Proverbs 30:5, 6).
* In the Oneness of God, that there are three manifestations of the One God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).
* The name by which God is known in the Sixth dispensation is Lord Jesus Christ.
* That Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified, buried and rose the third day in bodily form.
* In the necessity of baptism in water in Jesus name according to Acts 2:38, I Corinthians 1:13 and Colossians 3:17
* We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4. This is the birth of the Spirit spoken on by Jesus in St. John 3:5.
* In living a holy, consecrated and sanctified life.
* In the resurrection of the dead saints and the translation of the living saints, commonly known as the rapture (I Thess. 4:14 17).
